Become a MyRoad school!

MyRoad format

  • 2-hour timeslot (includes 30 min computer set-up time + evaluation survey).
  • All MyRoad events are free of charge for schools with an ICSEA under 1,000. Schools are welcome to book in for single or multiple sessions, all of which happens online.

Suggested cohorts/grades

MyRoad is open to all female students across Australia in Years 10 to 12. Ideally the young women will be aged 16 to 19 or turning 16 the year they do the program.

MyRoad online mentoring works for all student cohorts, including VET and ATAR, and those who are not quite sure. You are welcome to trial a small group of students or put your whole year groups through. It’s also a great way to engage disengaged students in an innovative format.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Beacon is still running MyRoad sessions and would be happy to work with your school to facilitate students logging in from home.

MyRoad mentors

Beacon has a diverse range of industry reps, both male and female, volunteering for MyRoad. All MyRoad mentors have Working with Children Checks and are trained in how to engage with students. While MyRoad modules focus on transferable skills needed across all industries, we can try to match student interests with mentors’ career backgrounds.

What is required to run MyRoad at my school?

To host a MyRoad online mentoring session at your school or community organisation, you will need a computer (laptop or desktop) with a webcam and a microphone for every 5 students to allow students to communicate virtually with a trained industry mentor.

You will also need access to Zoom unless you are in Queensland in which case you will need access to Webex videoconferencing. However, you don’t need your own licence for Zoom or Webex or any specific software installed, you simply use the videoconference links the MyRoad team provides.

Your school will also need adequate internet bandwidth to run a MyRoad online mentoring session. We suggest where possible you use physical connections to the internet rather than WIFI.

As part of your booking, you will be trained in how to access and use the appropriate technology and the MyRoad team will perform a “tech check” with you prior to delivery.

Book your 2-hour MyRoad session today or contact Beacon’s MyRoad team on 1300 935 627.

“MyRoad gave our students exposure to new ideas, confidence to continue on their career pathways and contact with a valuable mentor from industry. The mentors were well chosen and engaging. Students were excited to learn about careers in this manner.”

Sharron Warrick, teacher, Horsham College (VIC), 2019

“MyRoad provides a fantastic opportunity for students to connect directly with experienced operators in the workforce which helped our students begin to envision their planned future careers.”

Luke Roberts, teacher, Emmanuel Christian School (TAS), 2019

“It is such a worthwhile program. The school is supported to set up the MyRoad session and all resources are provided. They gain life and careers advice from professionals. It inspires them to have goals, follow their dreams and know they are supported in their journey.”

Jo-ann Stroud, teacher, Tumut High School (NSW), 2019

“I highly recommend the MyRoad program. Students who are usually shy and do not contribute to conversations in class were actively discussing with the mentors. All the students enjoyed it and left enthused and with increased self-esteem. I had numerous students stay afterwards to ask questions about their career interests and subject selection etc that they had never asked in Careers lessons or at school previously. They all said they would love to do the program again next year!”

Sheree Cayirylys, teacher, Moree Secondary College – Albert Street Campus (NSW), 2019
