Grant Terms and Conditions
Eligible MyRoad Session
The MyRoad program is currently aimed exclusively at young women aged 16 to 19 (or turning 16 in the year they do the program). An eligible MyRoad session is one that includes females in this age range and has been approved by the MyRoad Program Manager as able to participate in the program. The MyRoad Program Manager will have the ultimate discretion as to what constitutes an eligible MyRoad session for the purposes of this grant process. While schools and community organisations may run multiple MyRoad sessions in any given school term, they can only apply once in each round for a MyRoad Technology Grant. Winners in Round 1 are also ineligible to win again in Round 2.
ROUND 1
All schools and community organisations that host an eligible MyRoad session between 16 January 2018 and 15 April 2018 inclusive are eligible to apply for a ROUND 1 grant.
Step 1: Run an eligible MyRoad session between the above dates.
Step 2: Submit an online application form before 2pm AEST on Monday 14 May 2018.
ROUND 2
All schools and community organisations that host an eligible MyRoad session between 16 April 2018 and 6 July 2018 inclusive are eligible to apply for a ROUND 2 grant.
Step 1: Run an eligible MyRoad session between the above dates.
Step 2: Submit an online application form before 2pm AEST on Monday 6 August 2018.
Two grants of $7,500 each (excl. GST ie no GST will be applied) will be awarded in ROUND 1.
A further two grants of $7,500 (excl. GST) will be awarded in ROUND 2.
Grants will be awarded in lump sums of $7,500.
Applicants are welcome to apply in both rounds as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.
Recipients of ROUND 1 grants will be ineligible to apply in ROUND 2.
A judging panel will assess eligible applications after the closing date in each round. Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Preference will be given to applicants that have a low socio-economic status (ie an ICSEA score of less than 1,000) and / or where there is the greatest identified need for new technology
- How the new technology will complement the applicant’s existing technology which is helping to build young people’s 21st century skills
- The expected long-term impacts of the new technology on young people
- Whether the applicant has relevant expertise to maximise the value and utilisation of the new technology going forward.
ROUND 1
Applications closed at 2pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Monday 14 May 2018.
ROUND 2
Applications close at 2pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) on Monday 6 August 2018.
We encourage you to get your application in early. You can apply any time after making your MyRoad booking but should your session not go ahead, or should you not meet other eligibility criteria, you would no longer be eligible for a grant.
Completed applications must be received by the MyRoad Program Manager by 2pm AEST on Monday 14 May 2018 for ROUND 1 and by 2pm AEST on Monday 6 August 2018 for ROUND 2.
Applications received after these times will not be eligible for consideration under that round of this grants program. If there is a question over whether an application is deemed ineligible because it was submitted late, this matter will be resolved by the MyRoad Program Manager.
ROUND 1
Grant recipients will be notified no later than Thursday 14 June 2018. The grant monies will be paid to successful applicants no later than Thursday 28 June 2018. Round 1 recipients will be announced on this web page once they have been notified.
ROUND 2
Grant recipients will be notified no later than Thursday 6 September 2018. The grant monies will be paid to successful applicants no later than Thursday 20 September 2018. Round 2 recipients will be announced on this web page once they have been notified.
MyRoad sessions are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
While the MyRoad program will continue for the remainder of 2018 and beyond, only those sessions hosted before 6 July 2018 are eligible to apply for a MyRoad Technology Grant in either ROUND 1 or ROUND 2.
Bookings and student numbers are necessarily capped due to the limited number of calendar days available. Beacon Foundation will post on the grants webpage when bookings can no longer be taken. When making a booking, please keep in mind that a minimum of three weeks’ notice ahead of a booking is generally required.
It is intended that the grant money be used on technology that will assist your school/organisation and its young people to participate in activities that build young people’s 21st century skills.
It is not intended that the money be spent on technology that is already in the school’s budget.
For some schools, a bank of laptops would greatly assist their students in acquiring 21st century skills. For others, it might be a big screen TV with videoconferencing facilities for their hall or gymnasium. For others, it might be additional wifi devices to enhance internet capability.
An example of what would not be deemed appropriate is a piece of equipment that would only benefit one individual at the school or organisation rather than its students or young people as a whole. It is intended the grant monies be used to purchase technology rather than plans to improve technology for example.
ROUND 1
The grant money will be provided to successful applicants before 28 June 2018. Recipients would then be required to spend the money by 31 December 2018.
ROUND 2
The grant money will be provided to successful applicants before 20 September 2018. Recipients would then be required to spend the money by 31 March 2019.
Beacon will require a statement from grant recipients before the money is awarded about the primary use of the funds. Beacon will also require a brief report on how the money has been spent by the ‘spend’ date.
Beacon would also welcome a report on outcomes after the technology has been purchased to provide feedback as to its ongoing value to your school or organisation.
Beacon Foundation reserves the right not to award the funding should there be an insufficient number of eligible applicants in either round. In that case, further funding rounds may be announced.
The grant money is being put forward by Beacon Foundation and Coca-Cola – both of whom are partners in the MyRoad program.
